Despite cold weather, snow and icy roads, over 35 people attended the Sewickley Valley Chamber of Commerce’s mixer at the Clay Cafe, to kickoff it’s Sewickley Unleashed spring event to benefit Animal Friends. This event is going to be TOO MUCH FUN..so mark your calendars for April 24th, 2010!
Yvonne Kass, of Fondi’s Gourmet Market, Alexis Comunale, Jewel Thief, and Sandy Moisey, of Sewickley Car Store were among the Sewickley merchants, local artists and chamber members who ‘unleashed’ their creativity as they handpainted pet bowls to be auctioned off at the Pawsitively Purrfect Cocktail Party.

Brenda Fisk, Mixer Chairperson said, ” the event was well attended despite the weather. It was a fun, social networking event that also spawned many great ideas to promote Sewickley.”
Brenda’s shop, Fun By the Pound will also be one of the three locations for Sewickley Story Time, another activity of the Sewickley Unleashed event. Other locations include the Sewickley Library, Sweetwater Center for the Arts and Laughlin Children’s Center.
Coordinated by Doug Flory, Exec.Director of The Laughlin Children Center and Animal Friends, The Sewickley Story Time is an activity where children will get the opportunity read their favorite stories to dogs who love to listen!
Robin Pesa of Busy Bee Boutique Photography recently captured Doug and Olive at the center. Robin and other participating photographers will be shooting images of some local residents and business people with their pets. These images will be displayed in local businesses who are asking for your votes by making a small monetary donation to Animal Friends.
The day into evening event will include activities for family members of all ages and their pets. Anyone interested in participating in the Pet parade? Attend the street fair on Broad, (no charge) with over 40 tent vendors, a pet agility course, adoptable pets from Animal Friends, music, entertainment and more. Stroll down Beaver Street and check out the many exhibitors: Sewickley Historical Society, Sewickley History Center, Renee Takacs-Pet psychic, to name a few. Take advantage of the many store merchants who will be offering specials for the day!
